Embrace the Variation of Your Dream

Life goals are funny things. When you're planning how to reach them, they seem so important and desirable.
Anticipation makes achievement seem so exciting, but when those goals are finally attained, one often finds that they don't seem so grand being accomplished as they did being anticipated.

Driving was like that for me. Going to college, and graduating from college was like that too. My wedding day even seemed a little less grand than I dreamed it up to be too. Don't get me wrong they were all great, and with each one came and appropriate sense of accomplishment and elation. It just wasn't the same as what I had imagined it would be. My expectations were much higher that what reality gave me. Although what reality gave me was grand in its own right, it was slightly less grand or just somewhat different than my expectations.

I have lots of life goals, lots of dreams, lots of things on my "Bucket List,"  some of which you've read already in my previous post. The list changes as I check them off or change my mind about them, but they are real goals and dreams none the less. Now, though, I know  that I don't have to do or have them all. It's okay if I die before any one of them is met or if my mind changes and I don't find them appealing anymore. It's even o.k. if the realization of a dream is merely a realization of disappointment. I also know now that it is o.k. to have high hopes and unrealistic expectations, because you can be told till you can't stand it anymore that you need to be realistic, but until your high hopes and expectations are adjusted by reality through first hand experience, you just won't "get it."

So, dear reader, dream big. Expect the best. strive for your goals with fervor, but when reality shows you a different variation of your dream, don't be defeated. Embrace the variation of your dream.
