I just found out the other day that' I'm going to be a mommy. It's
exciting and it almost doesn't feel real except that I don't like food
anymore and I want to sleep all day. It's a scary thing because, well,
I've never been a mommy before. I've always been surrounded by babies
and children, but none of them were mine. None of them called me
"Mommy."
I suppose I could say that I know what to expect, but the truth of the matter is: I don't. In both theory and practice, I know the in's and out's of diapering, feeding, entertaining, and bathing, and the general caring for babies and children of any age. My "Mommy" made sure of that by having a truckload of children and having me first. My chosen profession has even taught me how to take care of scads of children at once and still manage housekeeping and bookkeeping tasks at the same time. I don't say this to brag. I say this because, knowing this, some people have said that I know what I'm getting into. The truth is, I probably don't.
I don't really know what to expect, but I am expecting. Even though I don't really know what I'm doing, I'm expecting I'll figure it out. I've had kids call me "Mommy" before, but they were just being silly. Now, I'm expecting somebody's going to call me that on purpose.
