They Do Say Weird Things...

"Girls say really weird things, and you don't even know what they are saying
when they say the weird things. You just know they are saying weird things."

My little brother Daniel told me that once. He'd just been totally confused by his best friend Grace. She'd done or said something that just utterly befuddled him, and in his exasperation, he turned to me to express his frustration. I felt kinda sorry for him, and I wished I could tell him it wasn't that bad, but I couldn't. It his little 8 year old wisdom he hit the nail on the head. with out even knowing it, he got it right. Girls are weird, and girls do say weird things, but in our defense, we aren't the only ones!

Boys, I've learned, are just as weird, and they say weird things too. After church today, I ate lunch with my husband, his brother, and our friend Jon. Now I'm sitting on my couch writing this blog post, all the while surrounded my their masculine conversation. I'm amazed that they can remember every last detail of the cartoons we watched as kids and when it comes to superheroes or comic books, they could write a dissertation. And how is it that just the thought of robots taking over the world can become an intricate over dinner discussion? I'm not really sure what they are saying, I just know they are saying weird things. There's something about wondering what would happen if Michael Jordan was a Jedi fighting Captain America?  Then out of nowhere, the SEC is playing the NAACP in the something-er-other-championship but this or that video game didn't do it justice.

Before I process one thing, their on something else. So instead of trying to keep up, I nod my head and smile. Eventually their lips keep moving but no words are coming out. When I get lost, I don't bother getting found. I just let my mind wander over the hills and far away where I keep my daydreams for these very moments. It may sound mean, but I get the feeling, that the silly boys do the same thing to us.

Dear little brother, if you only knew how insightful you were when you didn't mean to be!
