If That Face Could Talk

"What is that you express in your eyes?
It seems to me more than all the words I have read in my life."
-Walt Whitman

I read somewhere once that babies are designed to look cuter the younger they are and lose that cuteness as they grow. That way the adults around them will naturally be more inclined to care for them during the time when they are most helpless. Part of a baby's helplessness is his inability to express himself with words like us older folks can, but you know? I think God knew what he was doing when he created human beings without the ability to talk right away.

Just imagine if that face could talk....

How many times have you looked at a baby and wondered what she'd be saying if she could say what she was thinking. Well, it's just such a wonderful and cozy thought to imagine their words when she looks up at you will twinkling eyes and coos.
That shining face just blurts, "OOOoooooooooooo Mommy! I just love you more than milk!

And it's just so stinking cute to think of what she's thinking when she gives you a wide-eyed wild look that says, "Aaaaagoooo.....Who is you? WaaaaWhoa I see funny people!"
If hilarious and happy things were the only things that babies said, well, there would be no reason in the world for them not to talk, but we all know, that babies have a lot more than compliments and  questions to share.

If babies could talk, imagine what they'd say.....

If that face could talk, we would hear some really ugly things....

....Things that would earn a mouthful of soap suds,

...and would need to be "bleeped" on national TV.

If that face could talk, in moments of anger, imagine the threats over minor offenses,

...and in moments of heartbreak, imagine the terrible accusations.

If that face could talk,
we'd all be in trouble. No one would ever catch a break, and we'd all find new meaning in the phrase
"...Fearfully and wonderfully made."

So.....
Although I'd love to know what this face is thinking, I'm perfectly content to wait to hear his thoughts until he's able to learn a little more self control.

When it comes to babies, some things are just better left unsaid...
